With the Fall Equinox approaching, a lot of change is on the horizon. The days are starting to get cooler and shorter. There is more darkness and gloomy weather, which can be hard on our mental health. This shift can bring a lot of mixed emotions and sometimes even feelings of chaos. We are trying to find our new rhythm after a more carefree summer lifestyle, and settling into more of a grounded season of routines and stillness. The shift can feel abrupt and may leave us feeling anxious and ungrounded. However, there are things we can do to best support ourselves through this transition that offer feelings of calm and serenity.
In Feng Shui, Fall is associated with the metal element. This cold and contracting movement corresponds with creativity, communication, inspiration and symbols. It also it connected to grief and stillness. When we think of balancing the metal element in our lives, we want to focus on getting organized - think finances, goals, home, budget, calendar, planning etc. When you are living in balance with the metal element, you will feel feel empowered to speak up, create boundaries, get organized, be timely and be able to flow through challenges with ease.
I am going to share with you my tips and rituals to support yourself, your home and your wardrobe through this shift so you can welcome it with ease and excitement.
1. Get grounded: you may feel all over the place because you don't have a routine to anchor yourself through the changes. When we have a grounding practice that allows us to connect back to ourselves, we are feel centered and stable, therefore we are able to manage challenges and changes with more ease. Now is the time to take the rush out of your life and welcome in more stillness and alone time. Bring your energy more inward to nourish yourself and your space. Perhaps that means doing more restorative movement, cooking more, staying in more etc. Create daily habits that creating a grounding energy within you. Simply starting your day with a mantra or intention followed by some deep breaths and gratitude can really help shift and anchor your energy.
3. Closet clean out: As we transition to cooler weather, we may look at our closet and feel like we have nothing to wear. This may happen because our closet is filled with last season trends that aren't "in style" anymore or perhaps we just have too much "stuff" and feel overwhelmed trying to put pieces together to wear. Regardless, now is the perfect time to do a purge. My advice is to take every single item of out of closet and drawers, cleanse and organize the spaces and only put back what you TRULY love. Once everything is back in its place, you can take inventory of what you may need for the season. Quality timeless essentials will help you build a capsule collection for your own unique style. 4. Nourish your space: When we think about fall, we may associate it with more nights at home, cozy blankets, warmer colors and a mellow environment to ground and feel safe and secure. To nourish your space this fall, add in warmer grounding colors. Perhaps you switch out your throw pillows and blankets. I recommend changing bedding and sheets to a flannel or thicker cotton for added warmth. Bring scents into your space through essential oils or non toxic candles that invoke the smells of the season. You can also bring fall foliage indoors through different floral arrangements and gourds. Shop my favorite candle HERE!
5. Fill your kitchen with grounding, root vegetables: In the summer months we tend it eat lighter, more fruits, smoothies, raw vegetables and lighter meals. In the fall, we want to ground and use food to support that. Focus on consuming more root vegetables and warming foods. I love to make soups, chili and stews loaded with grounding foods and spices.
As we transition into the fall season, taking the time to prepare your home can have a profound impact on your overall well-being. By decluttering, embracing seasonal decor, focusing on comfort, and infusing delightful scents, you'll create a warm and welcoming environment that you and your loved ones can enjoy throughout the autumn months. Embrace the change in season, and let your home reflect the beauty and coziness of fall.
